Kundalini

Kundalini is best understood as a technology designed to let “householders” or someone who lives in a house with a family (rather than one who pursues a lifetime meditating in the forest) experience the truth of their being in the context of the universe. The movements, mantras and breath patterns are like the most powerful and practical apps to cultivate awareness…long before there were apps.  Practicing Kundalini removes inner conflict (between the mind, body, soul, and the soul’s mission) and creates radiance.

We have experienced that practicing it does a great job to counteract the effects of the exponential amount of information our bodies and minds metabolize on a daily basis , and leaves us feeling balanced and energized. It also helps us find bliss in our householder roles (i.e. mother, wife, daughter, etc.) You can find out more about the history of Kundalini here. We are so excited to create place for these teachings, and a place for everyone’s Kundalini to rise and grow. And we are even more excited we get to do this in in La Jolla. The yogic scriptures say it takes 8.4 million lifetimes to incarnate as a human. We believe it takes at least another 8.4 lifetimes to incarnate as a human that gets to live in San Diego and practice Kundalini yoga.

I was born in the San Diego Kundalini ashram in Hillcrest. I attended a boarding school in India where having a daily Aquarian Sadhana (a 2 ½ hour yoga and meditation practice before the sunrise) was required. I loved it. But after I graduated and came back to America and, over the years, my practice dwindled. I became overwhelmed with school and relationships, and my mom (who has over 40 years experience teaching Kundalini yoga) suggested I go to the teacher training. I entered the training reluctantly, thinking surely I knew everything there was to know about Kundalini yoga.

To my surprise when I started my first 40 day sadhana the results were instantaneous.  All the overwhelming stress and anxiety I was experiencing literally disappeared overnight. I realized that the teachings have never let me down and always deliver the experience the ancient yogis meant them too. Now I can't imagine my life without daily meditation and yoga in it.

My favorite mediation to deal with stress and anxiety is Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru, it's a really pretty mantra and provides such a feeling of comfort and security. 

Committing to this practice as an adult has been such an incredible experience, and I can see the difference in my life and my path. I’m excited to help make Kundalini Windansea a place where everyone’s Kundalini energy can rise!

I began practicing Kundalini when I was pregnant with my first child. I loved the prenatal technology I learned in classes about what was happening with my physical body, my auric body and my daughter’s journey and our shared arcline. (I wasn’t hearing this stuff anywhere else, that was for sure!)

I was also quite anxious about transitioning out of my law career—I was terrified I was going to lose my “value” in the world.  I remember doing a meditation and a voice said that if I did a daily meditation I would never worry about my value again. In Kundalini we call daily meditation sadhana. So I did my sadhana and continue to do so, and I have no plans of stopping. I even named my daughter Sadhana. I’ve never felt more loved or valuable. And I have begun to intuitively handle situations that used to baffle me.

My wish is to create a special place for all to experience Self, obtain balance and bliss in a steady, non-fleeting way.
